A man in his thirties was shot dead on a field next to the N2 Highway near Cape Town International Airport on Wednesday morning.
Nyanga Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Dumisani Qwebe told the Daily Voice the motive for the incident is unclear and the victim is unknown at this stage.
He said: “As the CPF we are appealing to anyone who may have any information and to work hand in hand with SAPS, so that anyone who was involved in the shooting can be apprehened for what they did.”
He further appealed with mense not to take things in their own hands if there are any defences.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “Nyanga police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident on an open field next to the N2 Highway, on Wednesday morning, 14 January 2026. Police members were called to the crime scene where they found an unknown male believed to be in his thirties with gunshot wounds to his body.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
Ward Councillor Emre Uygun said the Freedom Front Plus were geskok to hear about the discovery of the man found near Cape Town International Airport.
Uygun said: “This incident highlights the extreme danger posed by criminals roaming around the N2 in close proximity to Cape Town International Airport, showing a blatant disregard for human life.
“We urge SAPS to leave no stone unturned in their investigation to bring these perpetrators to justice.”
“Despite motorists reporting that they are seeing an increased presence of SAPS, Metro & Law Enforcement deployed to the N2 next to Cape Town International Airport, we urge motorists not to let their guard down and to immediately contact the City of Cape Towns Emergency contact Centre in the event of their vehicle breaking down on the N2 at 021 480 7700.”
He further urged SAPS to leave no stone unturned in their investigation to bring the skelms to justice.
