TENSIONS ran high outside the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, as supporters of the 11 Anti-Gang Unit cops on trial for the murder of Wade Price and supporters of the slain alleged gangster botsed.

The officers returned to the stand, facing a string of serious charges after alleged Clever Kidz gangster Price was “unlawfully and intentionally killed” last month, according to court documents.

Outside of court, two groups gathered behind crime scene tape, one backing the accused officers and the other supporting Price. They were kept apart by a heavy security presence.

They traded chants in a bekgeveg, with one group shouting “Justice for AGU”, as the other replied “Justice for Wade”.

Inside the courtroom, the 11 were seen sporting personalised t-shirts with "#AGU11' printed on the back.

The cops are facing charges of kidnapping, torture, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempting to defeat the administration of justice and the murder of Price on 4 December 2025, following an interrogation linked to a shooting incident outside the same court the previous day.

The court previously heard that Price and three friends were taken to Manenberg SAPS, with CCTV footage showing them entering the station alongside the accused officers. While the three men were later released, Price was allegedly taken to a property on Vygekraal Road, where he was allegedly murdered.

During the latest appearance, the court was expected to receive updates on the investigation. However, proceedings were stalled by the absence of the State prosecutor.

It was previously revealed that only accused number nine was granted bail due to health challenges, while the remaining officers remain in custody.

Ipid spokesperson Lizzy Suping said: “The nine officers will be detained at the Brandvlei Correctional facility while the female officer will be detained at Worcester Prison.”

Defence attorney Bruce Hendricks told the Daily Voice outside court that the defence team intends to appeal the bail decision at the Western Cape High Court on Friday.

Hendricks said: “There are several grounds that we are appealing. We have indicated that the lower court magistrate misdirected himself and that bail should be granted for them.

“There is no reason that bail should not be granted. Today, we heard that the investigation is at an early stage. Previously, the State said they had a strong case and now they are still investigating.”

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that the investigation is incomplete, with evidence such as the DNA report and crime scene report still outstanding, including the post-mortem.

While the bail appeal is set to proceed, the main case has been postponed to 5 March.
