TENSIONS between rival gangs in Mitchells Plain are not showing any signs of cooling down, as an alleged turf war is continuing to create turmoil in the area.

​This after a 34-year-old alleged gang member was gunned down on Sunday night in Tracey Crescent, Montrose Park.

According to reports, the man and his getuies were allegedly chased by unidentified gunmen in a blue Mk1 VW Golf, who opened fire. Another victim was injured and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

​Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed that a murder and attempted murder cases are under investigation.

​​Van Wyk reported: “Lentegeur police registered a murder and an attempted murder case following a shooting incident on 1 February at 9.20pm at a premises in Tracy Crescent, Montrose Park, Mitchells Plain, in which a 34-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded and another injured. The injured victim was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

​“According to reports, four unidentified males in a Mk1 blue VW Golf chased them and randomly shot at them, fatally wounding the 34-year-old victim. The motive is believed to be gang-related.”

​​Public relations officer for the Lentegeur Community Police Forum, Michael Jacobs, said that the violence is an act of retaliation after an alleged gang member was shot and wounded weeks ago.

​Jacobs confirmed: “I can confirm that a person was apparently chased and shot dead in Tracey Crescent in Montrose Park (The Farm) Sunday evening, 1 February 2026.

​“Tensions have been simmering between rival gangs since an alleged gang member was shot and wounded a couple of weeks ago and the community feared that it was a retaliation.”

In a separate incident Philippi police attended a complaint of a murder at Ntshiyani Street in Browns Farm on Sunday, 1 February 2026 at 2.10am.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that upon arrival, they found the body of an unknown adult male with stab wounds on the shoulder, chest and stomach.

Hours later, Kraaifontein SAPS registered a murder case after the body of a 32-year-old male was found at 1.45pm in Zihlangu Street, Kraaifontein.

​Police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana said that according to reports, the victim sustained a wound from being stabbed on his chest. Investigation is still ongoing.
