THE Cape football fraternity has been rocked by an untimely passing Stellenbosch FC player, Jeandre Gaffoor, 20, who lost his life on Sunday.
Social media has been flooded with tributes and messages from family and friends expressing their shock and heartache by the news.
Stellenbosch took to their social media to confirm the death of the reserve team defender and convey their condolences.
The statement read: ‘It is with profound sadness that Stellenbosch Football Club has learned of the untimely passing of our talented reserve team player Jeandre Gaffoor (20).
"At this time, the Club will not be making any further comment and respectfully requests that the privacy of his family and loved ones be honoured.
"Jeandre joined Stellenbosch FC’s development ranks at the starts of the 2024-25 campaign from Cape Town Spurs and featured prominently as the team achieved a runners up finish in the Diski Challenge last season.
"He will be remembered fondly by his teammates, coaches and staff, and his loss will be felt across the Club and wider football fraternity."
Former club, Spurs, also took to their Facebook to convey their condolences, saying: “With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Jeandre Gaffoor.
“The sudden and tragic loss of Jeandre has left our entire Spurs family in shock and mourning. There are no words adequate to express the sorrow we feel for your unimaginable loss."
Circumstances surrounding Jeandre’s passing have not yet been confirmed and attempts to reach out to the family for comment were unsuccessful.
