Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed that Mfuleni Saps are investigating two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.

Van Wyk reported: “Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident early this morning [Wednesday] at about 6.30am at a premises in Shire Street, Ext 6, Mfuleni , in which two persons were shot and fatally wounded and four others injured are under investigation.

“An adult female and male (aged unknown at present) were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, and four victims aged between 19 and 49 were injured.

“Mfuleni police registered two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murders for investigation. “According to reports SAPS members on duty received a complainant from radio control of shooting at the mentioned address.

“On their arrival at the scene they were pointed out the bodies of two people that were shot. All the injured people were taken to two nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

“The motive for this incident is believed to be gang related. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”

Public relations officer for the Mfuleni Community Police Forum Mvano Magula said they condemn the shootings but said it is easy for crime to take place as there is little police visibility.

Magula explained: “The shooting is gang-related and linked to extortion and drug cartels…

“They were attacking each other in the street when the shooting was reported. Mfuleni is a big area and only has one van to cover the whole area, and in that area where the shooting took place, there is not enough police visibility.”
