THE five accused linked to the shocking execution of Dingalomoya Chinsto inside the Wynberg Magistrates Court are preparing for a possible High Court trial, with several still scrambling for legal representation.

Shireen Matthews, Abubaker Adams, Brian Booysen, Wanay Farao, and Vuyisani Zengetha returned to the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Friday in connection with the brazen assassination of Chinsto in the same courthouse on 7 April 2025.

At the time of the incident, an eyewitness reported that a lone gunman wearing a maroon t-shirt and a black beanie approached Chintso and took a firearm out of his sling bag and fired four shots at his head.

Panic spread as bang mense feared the gunman was still roaming the court corridors as sources revealed that the victim was a person of interest in the murder of slain Junky Funky Kidz (JFK) gang boss Ashley “Essie” Phillips, who was shot outside Brackenfell Police Station in January 2025.

The five face charges of aiding and abetting criminal gang activities in association with the JFK gang, murder, and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The court previously heard that Matthews and Farao’s bail application was denied, while the ouens decided to abandon their bid for bail.

However, following the applications, Adams, Booysen, Farao, and Zengetha were left without legal representation.

The court heard that legal aid was not in a position to represent the accused due to being at court when the murder occurred.

They were due back in court on Wednesday, but National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said: “The case was postponed [Wednesday] for a forum decision to determine the court in which the matter will be heard going forward - whether the regional court or the high court.”

The court heard that the case will be heading to the High Court and that judicare representative would be appointed.

The case was postponed to 25 March.
