COMMUTERS between Delft and Bellville were left without a ride after taxi services were temporarily suspended on Wednesday morning at the Voorbrug taxi rank in Delft after an alleged dispute between the drivers and owners.

Klomp Law Enforcement officers arrived at the taxi rank as a brief taxi driver strike took place.

The announcement was made on Facebook by the Delft Bellville stating: “Good morning valued customers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the Delft Bellville taxi strike this morning due to disagreements between the drivers and owners.

"Full operations will resume once the matter is resolved. Thank you for your patience. Sincerely, DBTA (Delft Bellville Taxi Association) Team."

Another statement followed by the Delft-Belville Taxi Association, which said: “We wish to inform you all taxi services have now returned to normal operations following the strike on 11 February 2026.

"We sincerely apologise for any disruptions and inconveniences you may have experienced during this time.

"The safety and satisfaction of all our passengers are of the utmost importance to us and we deeply regret the challenges posted by today’s events."

Chairperson for the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) Nceba Enge said they would be investigating the dispute,

He added: “We have sent the working committee to go and investigate what the dispute was about.

"There wasn't a fight but they were temporarily striking, the drivers put the keys down of the taxis so the owners had to drive themselves to transport passengers. I am awaiting feedback from the committee on what was the reason for the strike.”
