A FAMILY from Wesbank has been left with unanswered questions after their brother was found murdered on Friday after being released from prison just five months ago.
The body of Ashley “Bobby” Boer, 32, was discovered by children with a gunshot wound to the head on Friday afternoon around 1.30pm on an open field in Volgelvlei Street, Wesbank.
His sister, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that she suspects that Boer’s murder might have been a form of revenge as he was released from prison just five months ago after serving four years behind bars for murder.
According to her, Ashley was not involved in any gangsterism and was wrongfully accused and sentenced.
The sister said: “I think he might have been murdered on Thursday because he did not sleep at home on Thursday night.
“The last time we saw him was on Thursday morning, he left and just told me to look after his phone that is in the charger and was away from home the entire day.
“We were looking for him and I was concerned. My sister’s son heard that someone was lying on the field, when he went to go look then he saw it was Ashley and he came to tell us.
“I suspect that he was murdered in the field because there was dry blood lying there and bullet cases at the scene. He would always tell me where he was going and would come back home.
“He was not a gang member.
“Since he was released five months ago, he would just go to the shop and back and stay in the yard. He went to jail because he was accused of two murders but they found him to be innocent after he served four years in jail.”
The sister said that her brother was trying to get his life on the straight and narrow path and even had a possible job lined up.
She added: “He was very trustworthy, people would always send him to the shop and trust him with their money.
“He loved making jokes and was a lovely person. He went for a job interview. We also helped him get his ID and R370 Sassa grant.
“We are taking it day by day. It was heartbreaking seeing him lay there in the field like a dog.”
