THREE young girls and an unborn baby had their father snatched away from them when he was fatally assaulted on 6 February 2026 outside his home in Delft after receiving death threats.
Curtis Kleinhans, 33, was sitting with the neighbour inside the neighbour’s car drinking just two houses away from his home in Rhoodehek Street, Voorbrug, when three men approached him.
In an interview with the Daily Voice, his pregnant wife Stephanie-Anne Kleinhans, 32, recalled feeling helpless as she watched her husband get beaten to death on the fateful night.
She said that her husband got into an argument a while back with a man who lives in their backstreet, who made death threats to kill him.
Kleinhans explained: “He was sitting outside with the neighbour in the car drinking and then I just heard his voice as if he was arguing with someone.
“When I went out, I saw a grey car standing next to them.
“They were three men who pulled my husband out of the car and started smacking him around, they started kicking and trampling on him and that was when he died on the scene.
“One of the men had it in for my husband for a long time, they had an argument and he threatened my husband saying, ‘Jy moet pasop, jy gaan nog eendag vrek en ek gaan sorg jy gaan vrek’.
“It happened in a blink of an eye. My brother-in-law tried to help but they wanted to beat him as well.
“I also tried helping, but my husband said I must stay away because they might hurt me or the unborn baby.
“The men came back again and threatened us saying, ‘we are all going to die’.”
She added that Curtis suffered a broken back and one of his ribs pierced into his heart.
Kleinhans is now facing an uncertain future with her three daughters and a baba on the way.
She said: “We have three daughters and I am four-months pregnant with our fourth child.
“My husband was a loving person and he was the breadwinner, doing odd jobs to provide for our family and loved helping people.
“Just hours before his death, he still helped a guy because they wanted to rob him.”
Neighbour Zainab Davids said Curtis was a good guy, adding: “My family and I knew him for over 20 years. He was a good person.
“My mother is in a wheelchair and he always went and checked if she needed anything. He did a lot for us.”
Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that at the time a 33-year-old was arrested and made his first appearance on 9 February 2026 at Bellville Magistrate’s Court.
Gwala reported: “Delft police registered a case of murder following an incident that occurred at Roodehek Street Voorbrug on Friday 6 February 2026.
“According to reports, the victim was sitting in his car when the suspect drove up to him, pulled him out of the vehicle, and trampled on him.
“The 33-year-old male was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and an adult male suspect was arrested.”
Kleinhans said the three men were eventually caught as they tried to run away and will make their second appearance at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on 18 February for a bail application.
