MANENBERG was bursting with pride as mense celebrated the Top 15 achievers from Phoenix High School and Manenberg High School.
Ward councillor Deidre de Vos led the celebrations on 10 February at the Manenberg Swimming Pool, describing the moment as one filled with “hope and gratitude”, as learners were recognised for their hard work and resilience.
She said the occasion was filled with pride and hope, highlighting that more than eight learners have already been accepted to institutions such as the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Cape Town College, while other registrations are still under way.
Onnies were thanked for their continued dedication to shaping young minds, while faith leaders Father Ronald Muller and Imam Shameeg Norodien offered prayers and words of encouragement to the Class of 2025.
Subcouncil chairperson Antonio van der Rheede and the pool facility manager Sean Gordon and his team also lent their support, showcasing life-skills programmes aimed at equipping learners for the next chapter of their lives.
Motivational speaker and content creator Cedric Luguma urged the youngsters not to let their background define them, reminding them that their choices will determine their future.
MMC for Human Settlements Carl Popham added to the celebrations by presenting certificates to the achievers.
With university doors opening and dreams taking flight, Manenberg proved that excellence continues to rise from within the community.
