Louisa van Sensie's family slam suspect's release on bail

THE family of Louisa van Sensie are devastated after her suspected killer was released on bail of R1000.

Rushin Abrahams appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court on Wednesday for his bail application, which heard that he acted in self-defence and was granted bail of R1 000 on the condition that he does not enter Bonteheuwel.

The victim, Louisa van Sensie, 58, was stabbed while trying to stop a fight between her husband and the accused on Loganberry Street at about 12.30am on 8 February.

Van Sensie’s niece told the Daily Voice that, as much as Abrahams pleads to have acted in self-defence and acting as a victim, he is known in the street for his aggressive behaviour.

She said: “When the incident happened, he came onto my aunt’s property.

“My aunty them were sleeping at the time and woke up to this commotion, which led to the fight, and she tried to stop it.”

Meanwhile, Van Sensie’s daughter, who is nearly six months pregnant, said that while sitting waiting to hear his outcome on bail, she tried to remain calm, but while hearing his statement that her mom allegedly stabbed him, she was geskok as she said it was lies.

She explains: “He knows exactly who stabbed him. He was stabbed metres away from where he stabbed my mommy.”

The case has been postponed to 4 June for further investigation.
