CRIME fighter and public relations officer for the Hanover Park Community Police Forum, Kashiefa Mohammed has been hit with a double tragedy after her home was destroyed in a fire before Ramadan.

Her home unexpectedly caught fire on 3 February 2026 before 11am and she explained that her family is now ripped apart by the blaze, as they have to live separately.

Kashiefa explained: “I was inside my house at the time with my grandchildren and my daughter-in-law.

“They were still sleeping and I just heard someone shouting something is burning at the back.

I jumped up and ran to the kitchen but when I got to the kitchen the flames were high already. I started shouting for my grandchildren and daughter-in-law to wake up. My daughter-in-law could not wake up and I told my son to run around and kick the back door open. Everyone made it out safely. God’s mercy and grace is upon our lives.

This is a very traumatic thing for my family. The sad part is that my family is divided and we have to sleep here and sleep there.

“The only people who are supporting me are CPF members, with great assistance from the ward councillor and some residents.

“We gathered money to put up a structure, they are making progress with that so hopefully when it’s Labarang dan kan ons in trek. We still don’t know what caused the fire.”

Kashiefa is appealing for any assistance especially with beds for the family. If anyone would like to donate please contact 083 424 1451.
