HEARTBREAK has gripped Tafelsig after a man was found dead in the small hokkie he called home, just days after he was last seen alive by his family.
The community of Tafelsig and the family of Sharief Daniels, 39, are reeling following the discovery of his deceased body on Sunday at 9.45pm, as he was killed in a cruel way.
A close relative told the Daily Voice that Daniels had been missing since Friday evening.
The deceased, who is the youngest of four siblings, stayed in a hokkie at the back of a family member’s house in Suurberg Street, Tafelsig.
The relative explained: “On Friday night, he was at home and went to ask a family member for electricity money. He bought it and came back, and that was the last time he was seen.
“The family went to look on Saturday evening in the hokkie, but it was just deurmekaar there.”
They added that just before a missing persons poster was set to be shared on Sunday, they received the news that his body was found in his hokkie.
The family member added: “The smell was so heavy, so one family member went to look again and took a torch, and that’s when they saw his feet hanging out there by the bed.
“He was murdered in his place, but police said that they can’t say what really happened as they need to do an autopsy.
“But we saw that his pants were down, he was half naked, another police person said it looked like people sat on him and killed him by putting a pillow on his head.
“His body was decomposed, and there was a lot of blood on the bed.”
They source added that they suspect the incident occurred between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
An alert was shared on community safety groups for mense to keep an eye out for his bicycle that has gone missing, as it is alleged that it could assist with the investigation.
Daniels’ phone and boom box are also missing.
Despite being a drug addict, he was described as a loving, friendly people’s person who kept to himself.
The relative added that they suspected Daniels was killed in his sleep or by a group of mense.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that Mitchells Plain police have registered a murder case.
Van Wyk reported: “The victim had multiple blue marks on his body and on his back. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
“The medical personnel at the scene declared the person as deceased.”
