This homeless man had a close shave at a local cop shop recently.
The Diep River SAPS trauma room has been praised for its kind treatment of the area’s homeless people.
Photos posted on the Diep River Police Station Facebook page last week shows a homeless man known as Samuel, 42, getting a shave from Warrant Officer Tayler.
A before and after photo shows Samuel with a beard and then clean shaven.
The post was shared over 1000 times.
Facebook users praised Tayler for his generosity.
Brenda Theocharis posted: “Huge respect, how wonderful to restore dignity, what an example to all, a real Angel x.”
Maryna van Eck Matthews wrote: “You make us proud W/Off. Tayler.”
Faldie Solomon jokingly said: “You guys just blew Jackie Chan’s cover. What was he doing in Diepriver anyway?”
Warrant Officer Tayler declined to comment.
This was not Samuel’s first starring role on Facebook.
In March last year, a video interview with Samuel was posted on the page, The Unseen and Untold: Cape Town’s Homeless People.
Samuel revealed that he is originally from Port Elizabeth, was divorced and is a registered security officer, but due to his disability – he suffers from epilepsy – he’s been unable to find a job in his field.
He has been living on the street for 20 years, and currently works as a car guard at the 7/11 in Diep River, locatd directly opposite the Diep River Police Station.
