A 23-year-old female has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Parow Magistrates Court today after allegedly fatally stabbing a woman and injuring a security guard at a bar.
The suspect is facing charges of murder and attempted murder after an incident at Parow nightclub on Voortrekker Road on 11 March after an argument ensued.
The deceased has been identified as Noxolo Mbane, 43.
According to Women for Change, a non-profit organisation advocating for the protection of the constitutional rights of women in South Africa, it is alleged that Noxolo had an argument with another woman which escalated into a fight.
The organisation claims: “The woman then continued to stab Noxolo twice. A security guard who tried to intervene was also stabbed. The suspect was arrested and her next court appearance is on 26 March, please come and stand with the family as they fight for no bail.
“We are heartbroken over the loss of such a beautiful soul. Another sister was murdered. How many more until we declare gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide a national disaster.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident. SAPS are investigating one murder case and one count of attempted murder.
Twigg reports: “Parow police registered murder and attempted murder cases for investigation following a stabbing incident on 11 Marcch at about 11.45pm in Voortrekker Road, in which a 43-year-old female was fatally stabbed and an adult male stabbed and wounded.
“The 43-year-old victim was declared deceased at the hospital, while the adult male received medical treatment. We can confirm that a 23-year-old female was arrested and appeared in the Parow Magistrates Court where the case was remanded until 26 March 2025.”
The Parow Community Police Forum adds: “The Parow CPF acknowledges the tragic incident that took place on 11 March at a licensed establishment in Parow. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured individual a full and swift recovery.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, with no prior complaints or reports of criminal activity at the establishment.
“While Parow has several licensed venues, serious incidents of this nature remain rare. Law enforcement, in collaboration with external stakeholders, conducts regular compliance inspections, ensuring that necessary enforcement actions are taken when required.
"Recently, proactive measures have resulted in the closure of a problematic establishment in partnership with the Liquor Board, while another venue has changed ownership and is not yet operational.
“At this time, no high-risk establishments have been identified in the area. We encourage responsible business practices and urge residents to report any safety concerns through the appropriate channels.”
