Philippi police are probing the murder of a young woman who was found dumped in a wheelie bin on a farm in Schaapkraal.
Leon Hugo, the owner of Lorraine poultry farm, says the grisly discovery was made by a farmworker on his way to work shortly after 8am on Tuesday.
“One of the farmworkers walking through the farm discovered the body at the back of the farm near the Siqalo informal settlement at about 8.10am,” Hugo explains.
“He walks through there everyday and noticed the black wheelie bin that was not there the day before and went to get the bin to bring it in but then he found the body.”
Scene pictures show a naked woman curled up inside the bin and partially covered with a red blanket.
Hugo says the farm workers alerted him immediately and he called police to the scene.
“We couldn’t see any injuries or blood but there was a blanket covering the body,” he says.
“We closed it up and waited for the police to arrive and do their work and it was later removed.
“It was not a nice thing to see and left the workers shocked.
“We don’t know who the bin belongs to and it appears it was dumped there overnight.
“The body did not appear decomposed.”
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the incident and says police attended the crime scene on a farm in Weltevreden Road at 9.45am.
“The body of an unknown female approximately in her mid-20s was discovered in a black wheelie bin,” he says.
“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
“Police are investigating a case of murder and they are appealing to the public to come forward with information.”
This is the second incident this week where the body of a woman was found dumped in bushes on the Cape Flats.
On Monday night, the decapitated body of a woman was found dumped in bushes along Baden Powell Drive in Strandfontein.
The shocking discovery was made by a homeless man who claims it is the body of his long-time girlfriend, Patricia Williams, 40.
Detectives recovered the woman’s head near her body in the bushes and it appeared that she had been stabbed several times in the abdomen.
Police said a post-mortem was underway to determine the identity of the woman.
