Ouma Nora de Kock, who celebrated her 110th birthday on Tuesday, has only one wish - and that is for President Cyril Ramaphosa to lift the ban on entjies.
The golden oldie from Kalkfontein, who could possibly be the oldest woman alive in the Western Cape, was treated to a hearty breakfast by her friends Carol and Stanley van Wyk.
The couple has been giving the centenarian a bash every year for the past three years, but this year, due to Coronavirus lockdown, they can’t have a party.
Carol says: “We treat her every year because these years of grace must be celebrated.”

Ouma Nora can’t walk well anymore and was fetched by car.
“I’m thankful for this little appreciation party from Carol and Stanley and I enjoy being spoilt,” the granny said with a smile.
Shoprite store manager Vivienne van Rooyen and two colleagues brought ouma Nora three big bags of groceries as well as an enormous cake.

Ouma Nora, who is not a smoker or drinker, says her birthday wish was directed at the president: “Please lift the ban on cigarettes, I’m sick and tired of people coming from outside areas to my area to look for cigarettes.
“They must stay at home because this las of strange faces can just spread the virus more, people are going out to take drastic measures to get the entjies, just let it be free to buy again, Mr President,” she pleaded.
Ouma Nora has two children, three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, but was never married.
“ Ek het nie kwale nie, I’m still able to take care of myself, it’s just the hearing and my legs that’s failing me a bit, but I’m still hups,” she jokes.
Ouma Nora adds that despite her advanced age, she doesn’t fear the Coronavirus.
“I’m strong and healthy, I just keep indoors and stay away from gatherings and people,” she says.
“This is the first time I’m coming out now since the lockdown started and I’m glad to be outside a bit.”
Ouma Nora had breakfast, and then tea and cake with a few friends.
