Benni McCarthy insists he will never return to Cape Town City.
This after City chairman John Comitis last week said he would rehire him in the future after sacking the Cape legend in November last year.
Comitis at the time told Robert Marawa in an interview last Monday: “If you asked me if I would do this again, I would 100 percent employ Benni again at the time that I did.”
But McCarthy hit back at Comitis after hearing criticism that he was too inexperienced.
Talking to Marawa as well, the Bafana Bafana goalscoring record holder says: “No chance. When the shoe doesn’t fit, you don’t put them on any more. I’ve outgrown those shoes."
“It was a great time, but my destiny is taking me elsewhere. I’m not going back to Cape Town City.
“It’s nice that the chairman is being optimistic, but I’m not going back.
“I don’t see myself going back and opening old wounds
“But a return to South African football is not off the board.”

Back in Scotland with his family, McCarthy, who interviewed for the top job at Hearts, adds of his Cape exit: “[Comitis] was eager to pull the trigger, because he probably felt a European coach or a more experienced coach could take the team to higher heights and I accepted it.
“My problem is that I’m being made the fall guy and the new coach is there to clean out my mess, my inexperience.
“When you work for a passionate chairman like John - he lives and breathes football - it’s amazing when you can have that and talk about shared experiences.
“But on the downside, he takes that passion into his job, and he becomes a sporting director and brings in players that he thinks is right for the club.
“And then the clashes came.
“As the successes came, new players were brought into the club. I was asked about a player. And if I said he was decent then they said they had signed him already.
“I thought ‘OK. So I didn’t get the players I wanted’.
“I had a philosophy, but the players I wanted to recruit didn’t come in...
“My downfall was that I was not a yes man.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity, but when they say that all the problems at the club are my fault, I’m gonna keep my mouth shut. That’s bullsh!t.”
