It's cup final week South Africa!

There is only one domestic game this weekend and that is the Telkom Knockout final. Our city’s blue and gold army Cape Town City face off with SuperSport United in Polokwane on Saturday.

And I am expecting a very exciting final. Here’s why:

These are SA's form sides at the moment

Eric Tinkler’s men are top of the league table after blitzing Wits 3-2 last Friday night.

That was a thrilling match capped by Lebo Manyama’s dramatic last-minute winner.

That took their unbeaten run to nine in all competitions.

SuperSport, although they have had a couple of draws lately, have not lost since the opening two games of the season. That’s 14 matches without defeat.

SuperSport have five in their last five games in all competitions. But let’s not forget a few weeks ago they scored 12 in three league games. The Citizens too know how to find the back of the net with 13 in their last five games.

The only concern for Tinkler is that they’ve conceded far too many in that time having last kept a cleansheet against Bloem Celtic at the start of November.

That’s a big reason why I’m expecting fireworks because you know there will be goals.

Tinkler and Stuart Baxter know how to win cups and they have faced each other before and where there’s history there’s a good story.

CTC owner John Comitis will want to prove to all the doubters that he is well and truly back.

Remember many tipped his side to be relegated at the end of the season and few gave them a chance.

For SuperSport United that motivation and desperation is there too.

An expensively-assembled squad has delivered only the Nedbank Cup when many expected them to be challenging for the league.

The Cape Town City skipper is flying high at the moment and leading by example.

If anyone could influence the outcome on Saturday, it is him.
