Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker says fans will see more attacking flair when they battle Maritzburg United for a Nedbank Cup last-16 place at Athlone Stadium on Friday night (8pm).
With the focus on hustling for every point in the promoted team’s quest to stay in the PSL this season, Barker’s manne have earned the reputation of a solid, counterattacking side.
But a cup finalist coach with AmaTuks in 2009, Barker says: “We look at the game in a positive light.
“My message to the players is that we have to play the cup games with more freedom and express ourselves a bit more.
“There isn’t that guillotine hanging over your head where you have to hold on for a point.
“It’s a cup game and we have to take the game to Maritzburg.
“And I’m looking forward to changing the perception that we are a difficult team to beat, a defensive-minded team. We want to go out and show a different side of us.”
