Mesut Oezil still does not want to speak to Germany
coach Joachim Loew or team manager Oliver Bierhoff about his
retirement from the national team, Bierhoff said on Wednesday after
trying to visit the midfielder at club side Arsenal.
Oezil quit in July after accusing the German Football Federation of
racism for criticizing the 29-year-old over a meeting with Turkish
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan before Germany's doomed World Cup
campaign.
Loew has said he has tried calling and messaging the 2014 World Cup
winner several times but has not received a reply.
"We would have liked to talk to Mesut. But we have to accept that he
does not want to have a conversation with us at the moment," Bierhoff
told Germany's Bild newspaper.
Bild said Loew did manage to speak with Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno
and defender Shkodran Mustafi when he visited Arsenal's training
ground. He also met Per Mertesacker, Arsenal's youth boss and former
Germany player.
