Schalke defender Naldo has hit out at

criticism from former coach Markus Weinzierl after last season's

Bundesliga runners-up suffered a club record-equalling fifth straight

defeat.

Schalke are bottom with no points, in stark contrast to last season

when unheralded young manager Domenico Tedesco inspired his side up

the table having taken over from the sacked Weinzierl following a

10th place finish in 2017.

Weinzierl criticized Schalke's tactics as a German television pundit

last weekend and referred to Naldo only as a 36-year-old.

"He needs to shut his mouth and find a job for himself," barked Naldo

after the 1-0 defeat at Freiburg.

"I find it lacking in respect, what he said.

"I have a name and he shouldn't just describe me as a 36-year-old,"

added the Brazilian.

Schalke also lost their first five matches two years ago under

Weinzierl.

They hit the post twice on Tuesday before falling to Florian

Niederlechner's strike at Freiburg which came on the rebound after

goalkeeper Ralf Faehrmann had failed to hold a shot.

When asked if he had the backing of the board, Tedesco told Sky:

"Yes, 100 per cent.

"The club can not give me more than that, I have to tell you quite

honestly. I do not want the credit for last season...it's history.

It's about this season.

"The lads can turn this around. Nobody can do it alone."
