Pep Guardiola praised “unsung hero” Gabriel Jesus after his brace helped Manchester City to a 4-1 win over Wolves to boost their winning streak to 21.

Jesus scored his double late in the Eastland clash as City stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to 15 points overnight on Tuesday.

The Brazilian striker took his season tally to 11 in all competitions as City have missed him and fellow centre forward Sergio Aguero for large chunks of the campaign.

And coach Guardiola says: “You cannot imagine how happy we are when Gabriel can score the goals he has scored.

“But it is the things he does for the team that people don’t realise he does.

“That’s why the striker has to score and he scored two. He helps us with his pressing and he is a joyous guy.

“He was brilliant, like he has been all season.”

Jesus lashed in a poor clearance to give City the lead in the 80th minute after Wolves’ Conor Coady had cancelled out Leander Dendoncker’s early own goal on the hour mark.

Riyad Mahrez struck in injury time and Jesus added another when he followed up on Ilkay Gundogan’s parried strike.

Guardiola hailed his team for never giving up, adding: “We were a little bit anxious after 1-1 but we reacted really well after we scored the goals.

“It was well deserved. The games are tight and in the last minutes we win comfortably.”
