The FIFA football world cup will next year be hosted by Qatar with the first match scheduled to take place on the 21 November 2022.
The matches will be played in eight stadiums across the country with seven newly constructed stadiums for the games.
The Qatar FIFA World Cup will see 32 countries from around the world compete to be crowned the best footballing nation in the world.
This is the first time that the event will be played between November and December and not in the northern hemisphere’s summer months as it usually does.
No African country has ever reached the final match of the tournament and only three African countries have ever reached the quarter finals.
Five slots have been awarded to Africa and 40 countries from across the continent have been vying to secure their spot in the upcoming tournament.
The second round qualifiers are made up of 10 groups with four teams each. The winner of each group in round two will advance to the third round that is taking place in March next year. The five winners of round three will be the countries that will represent Africa in the World Cup in Qatar.
The last time Bafana Bafana made it into the finals of the World Cup was in 2010 when we hosted the tournament but Bafana Bafana is currently sitting at the top of their group with a real chance of making it through to the third round.
This Thursday will see the nation tuning in at 9pm to see if we can beat our neighbours Zimbabwe in the second last match of this round.
An important match will be the match between Ghana and Ethiopia who are in the same group which will be played earlier on Thursday at 3pm.
If Ethiopia beats Ghana then Bafana Bafana just needs to beat Zimbabwe to progress to the third round playoff next year.
The odds for the World Cup qualifiers is up and gives 1.44 for South Africa against Zimbabwe and 1.32 for Ghana against Ethiopia.
The last of the round two matches for Bafana Bafana will be against Ghana and will take place this Sunday at 9pm.
