GIVEN UP: Bafana boss Hugo Broos
Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos doesn’t believe Fifa will order a replay of their controversial World Cup qualifier defeat in Ghana.
After the South African Football Association (Safa) lodged a complaint to investigate the match officials following a soft penalty award to the Black Stars which gave them a 1-0 win and passage to the final round of African qualifiers, Safa are still waiting for an outcome.
SA soccer bossed submitted a report hoping to prove a pattern of bias against Bafana and asked for Fifa to probe unusual betting activity.
The referee at the centre of the scandal, Maguette Ndiaye of Senegal, reportedly met with a top Ghana Football Association official in the days leading to the match in Cape Coast.
The information has reached Fifa and Safa are growing impatient with Danny Jordaan slamming Zurich’s silence.
But Broos gave his own verdict on the saak during an interview with Belgian sports show HLN Sportcast.
He said: “Fifa met [last] Tuesday. We expect a decision in the course of next week.
“You have to be able to prove something like that in black and white. Was he bribed? Wasn’t he pressured? Or was he just having a really bad day? The numbers are there, but is that enough for Fifa?
“I personally think that it will remain with a suspension for the ref and that we should not count on a replay.”
