Tackling the here and now: Evan Roos, right.Picture credit: Steve Haag
Stormers No.8 Evan Roos has put the disappointment of not making the Springboks World Cup squad behind him and is pushing hard to give his all for his union and club.
After all “they gave [him] a chance when no one else did”.
Roos, 23, returned to Cape Town in 2020 after going to Durban straight out of Paarl Boys High in 2019.
Evan Roos is reinvigorated and poised to make a resounding impact as he takes the next step in his remarkable journey with the DHL Stormers. #iamastormer #dhldelivers https://t.co/qIx42winan

It’s here where his rugby really took off and he became a Springbok last year. But it was not yet his time to represent his country at the World Cup and having spent time in the Bok camp, Roos says: “I’ve been in contact with a few of them [the players], I’m super proud of them and it’s awesome to see them doing so well. It really is a special group of players… In short, good luck to them for this weekend, we promise you there are 60 million South Africans behind you this weekend.”
He adds of his own ambitions: “My first priority is for my club and union, they gave me a chance when no one else did and I am training and getting better for them.
Obviously every South African player wants to play for the Springboks… but [I will] worry about that later.”

Roos and the Stormers host Scarlets at Danie Craven Stadium in the United Rugby Championship on Saturday and while he will pull out all the stops for his “club and union” he knows that Duane Vermeulen is retiring after the World Cup, meaning a spot at the back of their scrum will open up soon.
