LIVERPOOL yster Florian Wirtz admits that he thought he was offside when he scored an equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Fulham on Sunday.

The Craven Cottage match was one for the books, as Fulham first took the lead through former Reds player Harry Wilson.

Wirtz then steered the ball past the Fulham goalkeeper with his left foot in the 57th minute, but the linesman’s flag was immediately raised.

VAR checked and despite it looking very much offside, awarded the goal.

The Reds got their noses in front in stoppage time via Cody Gakpo, before Harrison Reed blasted home a late equaliser.

Of his strike, Wirtz told Sky Sport: “I was sure it was offside so I didn't even celebrate.”

Fulham coach Marco Silva agreed, saying: “I felt the same. Many people inside the stadium felt the same. “It looked offside, but we have to believe the semi-automated technology worked well and did right.”
