MANCHESTER City suffered a big blow in their pursuit of Premier League log leaders, with the news that defender Josko Gvardiol will undergo surgery after breaking a leg in their 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the weekend.

City trail Arsenal by six log points after 20 matches and will look to close that gap when they host Brighton at 9.30pm tomorrow night.

But they’ll do so without Gvardiol, with the club saying: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Josko Gvardiol has suffered a tibial fracture to his right leg...

“The defender will have surgery later this week and assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.”

Meanwhile, teammate Rodri says they musn’t paap over the title race.

Rodri explained: “It’s quite a gap but football is for moments. We know that it’s a big gap that we have to still fight for.

“Don’t focus on the table, just focus on our level, and all the big things that are going to come at the end of the season.”

With City in second place on the log, Brighton are in 10th.
