THE Stormers have only themselves to blame after getting klapped 36-18 in Friday's United Rugby Championship quarter-final loss against the Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium.
Swak defending, with a 65% tackle success rate minutes before the end, coupled with some terrible decision-making while on attack and a Warriors team on the rampage, led to the defeat.
It was one of if not arguably the worst performance of the Cape side in a URC play-off game.
While they breek’d Glasgow at scrumtime, the Kaapse span could not gain any momentum elsewhere on the field.
They were all over the home side in the opening stages of the clash and it delivered an early Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu penalty goal for a 3-0 lead.
However, swak kicking from restarts, a recurring kopseer this season, steek’d kop uit again as Glasgow capitalised as the Stormers went down to 14 men after a Seabelo Senatla yellow card.
In the 10 minutes Senatla was off, Glasgow scored two tries through Rory Darge and Kyle Rowe.
Senatla would, however, redeem himself after returning from the sin-bin, scoring an opportunistic try that brought his side back into the game.
But another swak exit from a restart saw South African Henco Venter score the Warriors’ third try for a 19-13 halftime lead.
And after captain Salmaan Moerat failed a concussion test and Dan du Plessis injured his shoulder The Stormers started to unravel even though the entrance of flyhalf Manie Libbok brought some control back into their game.
The Bok No.10 played a great hand in Senatla scoring his second try early in the second half as he broke the Warriors line before sending a pass out wide for the left wing to run in untouched and make the score 19-18.
But nog 'n exit error saw Glasgow winger Kyle Rowe score his second of the match. And six minutes later, a neat little counter-attack try for George Horne made it 33-18. Before Horne kicked a penalty goal to plant the final nail in the Stormers’ coffin.
