SHOULD South African rugby be on high alert following the All Blacks’ decision to axe head coach Scott Robertson on Thursday?
All Black fans seem to think so, suggesting that New Zealand Rugby jep Springbok assistant coach Tony Brown.
The former All Black flyhalf, 50, has been doing a kwaai job moulding the South African attacking game since his arrival in the Springbok camp in 2024.
And with Jamie Joseph – who is reportedly a close friend of Brown and who he has worked with at the Highlanders, Sunwolves and Japan – rumoured to be the early favourite to take over from Robertson, Kiwi fans are seeing ‘n ding aankom.
One Kiwi fan wrote on the All Blacks’ social media post announcing Robertson’s axing: “Jamie Joseph or [Joe] Schmidt if he can get out of his contract with Australia. Then Tony Brown in the mix possibly?”
Another added: “It was bound to happen, that was a weak coaching staff. Jamie Joseph, Tony Brown, Joe Schmidt and Wayne Smith incoming.”
Nog een wysed: “Jamie Joseph as head coach and the NZR buying out Tony Brown’s Springbok contract to bring him in as attack coach?”
As for Robertson, who was fired less than two years out from the World Cup, a statement released by the All Blacks read: “Scott Robertson has departed his role as head coach of the All Blacks following the completion of the 2025 end-of-season review...
“NZR will now commence the All Blacks’ head coach recruitment process immediately and will provide an update in the coming days.
“The All Blacks are scheduled to play next in three July Nations Championship matches in New Zealand.”
