PAUL de Villiers is enjoying a regte breakthrough season at the Stormers.

The 23-year-old has won the man-of-the-match award a hele four times, including walking away with the gong in their 39-26 win over Leicester Tigers at the weekend.

As it goes when you’re enjoying a purple patch, talk of a national call-up start doing the rounds. As an openside flank, the No.6 green-and-gold jersey currently belongs to Springbok captain Siya Kolisi – a man De Villiers will face when the Stormers welcome the Sharks to Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

Unbeaten in the United Rugby Championship after eight rounds, De Villiers’ Stormers are facing a team that have sukkeled this season and have won only two of their eight matches.

The Sharks are down in 14th place on the standings.

Still, they have a vrag Boks in their team and under the guidance of new coach JP Pietersen will be a threat to the Stormers’ perfect record.

De Villiers knows they will have to be at their best and said of his duel with Kolisi: “It’s every player’s dream to test yourself against the best.

“They have a team with a lot of good players and we respect them in that sense, we’re looking forward to it.

“But our focus is on ourselves and not the opponents’ [big] names.”

Even though he has been a ware ses on the ground, the former Junior Bok captain says he is not just a one-trick pony.

De Villiers added: “I would like for people to see me as an all-round player. Breakdown is a big role in my game, but I like having the ball in hand and working hard on defence too.”
