FLYHALF Jurie Matthee is the latest Stormer to commit his future to the team’s Project 2029 after signing a contract extension that will keep him innie Kaap for at least the next three seasons.

The 25-year-old is a homegrown talent and was instrumental in the opening stages of the United Rugby Championship when Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse were on Springbok duty and stepped up when the team needed him in high-pressure situations.

Stormers director of rugby John Dobson said Matthee’s development within the Stormers environment has been extremely encouraging.

Dobson said: “Jurie has proven himself to be extremely coachable and applies himself in a way that gives those around him confidence. He has already shown that he is much more than just a steady hand; he is respected by teammates and opposition alike. You underestimate Jurie’s abilities at your peril.

“We are delighted to keep him here long-term and are really looking forward to seeing him develop further within our system.”

Matthee said there is no place he would rather play his rugby.

Matthee wysed: “I grew up dreaming about pulling on this jersey and playing for this team. Since coming into the environment, I have grown as a player and look forward to seeing where this journey takes me.

“I feel blessed to represent this club and our fans. The vision we have here for the future is incredibly exciting and I am so glad I get to be a part of it.”
