LIVERPOOL manager Arne Slot says Sunday’s 6.30pm Premier League meeting with Manchester City at Anfield is a chance to measure how far his team has come since their 3-0 pak at the Etihad Stadium in November.
Speaking on Thursday, Slot admitted Liverpool were outplayed for much of the first half in that encounter and believes the rematch will show the span’s progress and maturity.
The champions approach the clash in confident mood after a convincing 4-1 klap of Newcastle United, while second-placed City arrive having dropped points in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, despite holding a two-goal lead.
Slot wysed: “I mainly remember the game we played at Etihad and we were outplayed for large parts in the first half.
“So this is another moment to see where we are in the development of this team. We know the importance of a result.
“This time, we want to show a different side of things.”
Currently sixth in the table with 39 points from 24 matches, Liverpool know results are becoming increasingly important as the season enters its final phase.
Slot added: “It’s the end phase of the season so results matter more.
“We have shown apart from that first half against City and Crystal Palace that we can compete with every team. We have not found the consistency for the results but we have shown against all the names, that we can compete.”
On the team news front, defender Jeremie Frimpong will miss the weekend fixture, though Joe Gomez could return to strengthen the back line.
