BAFANA Bafana coach Hugo Broos says a phone call or something from someone to say Patrick Maswanganyi is injured would have been nice.
Instead he found out last-minute.com that the Orlando Pirates yster was injured and therefore not available to play in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.
Heading into the match against Lesotho in Polokwane on Friday, South Africa are second on the log in Group C after two wins, a draw and one loss in the first four matches.
With Benin lying in wait next Tuesday and his team having pulled together this week, Broos is quoted by Sunday World as saying on Monday of Maswanganyi's withdrawal: “With Maswanganyi, I’m a bit angry because we only knew yesterday [Sunday] evening.
“From what I heard, he was already injured on Saturday, so he couldn’t play [in Sunday’s PSL match against Sundowns]...
“If my information is right, he was injured at training [and] everyone knew he was on the national team. A little call to say ‘look, I’m injured and I can’t play tomorrow, I can’t be in the camp’ [would have gone a long way]...”
Polokwane City midfielder Ndamulelo Maphangule was called up to replace Maswanganyi.
Maphangule has already linked up with the squad in Polokwane and will be available for selection in both upcoming matches.
