An alleged robber from Hanover Park was gunned down on Jan Smuts Drive on Saturday.
Just before 9am, residents from Pinati Estate say they heard the sounds of someone running frantically, not realising the
person was fleeing for his life.
The 28-year-old was shot along the busy road and his body was identified by a
security guard at a school who recognised him.
“He was one of the guys who would break in and rob people then come running past the school,” the guard said.
A resident in the area, who did not wish to be named, said they heard the victim being chased by several people.
“We heard them [the gangsters] chase him. They were coming from the direction of Hanover Park and was running towards the direction of Lansdowne. The fact that they shot him just like that on a Saturday in a busy road says it was no
mistake. But he loved robbing people of their hard-earned items, so, karma came to deliver it seems,” the resident said.
Dressed in blue jeans and a black jacket, the unidentified man was shot once and left for dead on the pavement.
His black backpack was still on his back when his body was removed from the scene.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, confirmed the incident, but says no one has been arrested for the murder.
“On Saturday at around 8.50am, a 28-year-old man was shot and killed along Jan Smuts Drive by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested. The circumstances are being investigated,” Traut said.
