Yet another former Fairview Primary School principal has passed away.
Aubrey de Wet, 60, died on Thursday morning due to Covid-19 complications.
Aubrey, who was a circuit manager at South Metropole, left Fairview Primary in 2008 to take up the post.
His passing comes days after former Fairview Primary School principal Cedric Esterhuizen and his wife Maureen, both 72, passed away within 24 hours of each other, also of Covid.
De Wet was admitted to Melomed Hospital in Tokai on 2 January.
Current principal Keith Meyer says: “Mr. De Wet’s passing came as a shock as we received news that he was recovering.
“Two days ago we received promising news that he was getting better and we were shocked to hear that he went into cardiac arrest and then passed on (yesterday morning).”
De Wet leaves behind his wife, three children and two grandchildren.
He was the deputy principal at Fairview Primary before becoming principal.
He was also a leader at his local New Apostolic Church in Parkwood, where he lived.
“You knew when he was present,” says Meyer.
“He was extremely helpful and was knowledgeable. He was well respected in the community for his love for education.”
His son Jason said his father turned 60 in November.
“He led through love and he was a great example. He would tell me whatever I do I must do it with love and the rest will follow.”
He said the family is due to meet to discuss funeral arrangements.
“We have not discussed his funeral yet, but want it done as soon as possible.
