Table View police are hunting for two suspects involved in an armed robbery of the Shoprite store at The Stables Shopping Centre in Du Noon on Friday afternoon.
Three suspects armed with firearms barged into the store, threatened staff and customers at gunpoint and made off with two bags of cash.
According to witnesses, one of the suspects was caught after shoppers assisted the security guards in chasing him down.
He was nabbed and handed over to police.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the police spokesperson, confirms: “Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a business robbery which was perpetrated on Friday at about 5pm at a retail store in Potsdam Road, Table View.
“The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. body copy_bold: “The investigation continues.”
The other two escaped in a white bakkie towards Malibongwe Drive and were still at large.
The store manager at Shoprite, who asked not to be named, confirmed the incident and said no one was hurt and the store was running as usual.
“There were no injuries so yes, the store is open.”
According to residents, such incidents have become “normal” in the area around this time of the year and some have criticised retailers for not tightening up their security to deter skelms.
