A Man from Scottsville is appealing for donations to help 150 children at a home in Tulbagh.
Lee-Roy Louw, 29, has embarked on a toiletry drive to help restore dignity to abused children at the Steinthal Children’s Home in Tulbagh.
Lee-Roy, who is studying to become a pastor, says during 2017 he took a break from his studies and became acquainted with the home during a cake drive.
Once there he noticed the children were sukkeling as some of them did not even have soap with which to bath.
He set up the toiletry drive which was a big success.
“This is the second time I will be doing it and I started collecting donations in July along with my church, the Lofdal Conference Centre in Kraaifontein,” he explains.
“The home has 15 babies and the house mothers still have to use towelling nappies.
“So part of the drive is to also get disposable nappies, soap, toothpaste, deodorants and so on.”
Lee-Roy says there are 150 children, aged from infants to 18 years old, and they are also trying to help young girls by collecting sanitary products.
“There are lots of girls who are menstruating so we want to get pads and tampons and other female hygiene products to help them.

“I started this drive because I imagine waking up and not having basic toiletries, like soap, and wonder what I would do.
“Many of these children come from abusive homes where social problems have forced them out of their homes so these simple items go a long way to restoring their dignity.”
Lee-Roy will be collecting donations until the end of August and the official handover will be held in September.
