Winnie Madikizela Mandela’s age-defying beauty was on everyone’s lips as she celebrates her 80th birthday.
At a larney bash in Cape Town on Wednesday, a gushing Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said the mother of the nation did not look “a day over 20”.
He was among dozens of politicians, celebrities, close friends and family who gathered at the Mount Nelson Hotel for a dinner to celebrate Winnie’s birthday.
Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba and his wife, EFF leader Julius Malema, music legends, Dr Caiphus Semenya his wife Dr Letta Mbulu, and Thandiswa Mazwai were also on the VIP guest list.
Dressed in a black and white peplum two-piece outfit, the former wife of the late Nelson Mandela appeared radiant and was all smiles as she greeted guests.
“I have to keep pinching myself to find out whether I am really still alive,” she said in a speech.
Ramaphosa was the first to comment on Winnie’s evergreen beauty.
“She has been a diamond; built to last, built to shine and built never to break.”
On Thursday night, a concert featuring Semenya and Mbulu was held at the Artscape in honour of Winnie.
