Sergeant Elton Loggenstein says although there wasn’t much blood or a blood trail, he does not believe the 18-year-old girl was killed elsewhere and her body dumped.
An autopsy has revealed that Lekita was stabbed 98 times, while her face, breasts and
genitals were brutally slashed.
The girl’s naked and mutilated body was found on an open field in Tuna Road next to the 8ste Laan informal settlement in Valhalla Park in September last year.
On trial for her murder is Cameron Wilson, 20, who is also being charged with five other murders, several cases of rape, attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
It is alleged Wilson and Lekita were a couple and that he had taken her from a karaoke event the night before, and killed her.
Loggenstein says he arrived at the scene to find about 150 residents gawking.
He cordoned off the scene, and started questioning bystanders, including Lekita’s family, who identified the victim.
“On the scene there was not much blood and no blood trail,” Loggenstein testified.
Defence lawyer, Advocate Mohamed Sibda, asked the sergeant if he searched nearby residences for clues.
“No, we did not investigate nearby residences; there came no positive information from enquiries made,” answered Loggenstein.
“We went on what we got from Lekita’s sister when she said she last saw her sister with Cameron Wilson. It was not my theory that she was killed somewhere else and dumped on the scene,” the court heard.
Loggenstein also confiscated a bloodied black jacket from Wilson’s residence, which analysts testified contained DNA from Lekita.
The trial continues.
