Hello mense, hoe gaan dit?
Ek is moeg. En my moeg is lekker moeg after all the Labarang festivities.
I’m super grateful to have had a blessed day with family and good food, making precious memories of the beautiful day.
As we all know during the big days we all tend to overindulge a bit and that’s why this week I want to take it easy with gou-gou kos.
One of my go-to foods when I’m not in the mood for cooking will always be mince.
It’s easy to prepare, easy on the budget (we all know how one needs the extra pennies after all the celebrations and festivities).
And it’s so so versatile - there are so many dishes you can prepare with good chicken or beef mince.
To take it even a step further, if your family is not big on mince, buy burgers, or if the mince on special or available at a good price, try your hand at making your own burgers, patties or kebabs for a more filling, meatier option.
Maak jou eie mix - gooi in fresh chopped dhanya, green pepper and chillies and season it with your favourite BBQ or Mexican spice.
Make them square for a sandwich, kleintjies for sliders or even make a lekker big, smashed patty that covers the entire roll.
When making burgers, I love adding a little touch of my favourite BBQ sauce to the burger just before it’s done.
I add in a splash of BBQ sauce from my favourite steak house and give in one last braai in the sousies.
Your burgers edges tend to be crisp or charred but also moist and lekker saucy on the outside.
Another tip is, if you are adding cheese to your burgers, top your patty with cheese just before you turn off the heat, this allows the cheese to melt into the burger, making it very lekker.
If you have leftover burgers, my go to option is to make a lekker burger patty smoor (see recipe below).
I add in onions, slices of tomato and green pepper and if I have leftover chips from the day before, I add that in too.
Slice up your patties and add it in, letting it smoor together lekker.
Once you are ready, serve it on a lekker slice of bread, toast or if there’s left over rolls, use that too.
It’s the same ingredients from the day before’s supper, just served in a completely different way. Give it a try and eet lekker mense.

Beef Mince Dhania Burger Patties
Ingredients
1kg ground beef (not lean)
1-2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1 tsp white pepper
½ tsp garlic powder
½ cup chopped fresh coriander
1 green chilli finely chopped
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Extra breadcrumbs if needed
Method
In a large bowl, using a fork, break down the mince clumps. Whisk the egg in a separate bowl and set aside. Finely chop the coriander and chilli and add it to the mince. Add in the spices, sauce and breadcrumbs and mix all the ingredients together by hand. Divide the mixture into equal portions. Make patty rounds (not too thick) and freeze for a half hour (this makes it easier to work with and it holds it together nicely). Once it’s frozen nice and firm, fry, grill, air fry or braai the burgers from frozen for 5-6 minutes per side, on a medium-high heat or until done.
