The Daily Voice had front row seats at the Premium Sports Bar in Mitchells Plain on Saturday where hundreds of rugby fans stieked uit to watch the Rugby World Cup clash between the Springbok and arch-enemies, the All Blacks.
The special rugby, dop and chop day kicked off Heritage Day celebrations this week.
An army of over 500 Bok fans, dressed in their green and gold jerseys, en ’n paar lonely swart hempies, packed the bar and the tent outside as the excitement mounted before the noon kickoff.
Neither the Bokke’s flou performance nor the rain outside could dampen the spirits as the dop flowed and the aroma of delicious wors and tjops permeated the air as the action played out on the big screens.
After a nail-biting 80 minutes on the field, the All Blacks won 23-13, and as the true sportsmen that they are, Bok fans heartily congratulated the All Black supporters in the bar and everyone proceeded to have a lekker jol after the final whistle.
Joe Hendricks, 55, from Goodwood, was clearly a Kiwi fan with his black hard hat and black mask and says: “I’ve been a loyal supporter for 30 years, I knew this game was going to be tough, I got here at 10.30am with friends, and I totally enjoyed the game.”
Pub owner, William Goliath, said: “It was a nice vibe and the weather didn’t dampen our spirit. It’s great to see our people unite behind the Boks.
“I’m really grateful that Team Daily Voice shared the experience with us.”
