Imperial Primary School in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, held their annual carnival over the weekend.
Die ding het geruk when the school’s drill squad and drum majorettes walked through the streets of Eastridge and Beacon Valley giving mense a show.
Beacon Hill High Jazz Band also showed off their brass skills at the carnival sharing the stage with Andrew Snyders, a season 1 finalist of The Voice SA, as well as The Kaapdashians, YouTube singing sensation Andrea ‘Annie’ Fortuin, and other local talent.
The school’s deputy principal, Mr Smith, says: “The carnival was a success once again, the support we received in these trying times has been overwhelming.
“The school community of Imperial once again made a statement by attending the annual carnival in the midst of all the violence and gang activities that have plagued the area.
“The carnival has become the only large scale event that offers the communities of Beacon Valley and Eastridge the opportunity to interact socially and to forge a true sense of community.”
The Grade R pupils participated in Miss Imperial 2018 which was won by the feisty Nuhaa Davids, first princess was Cassidy Carolus and second princess was Toufeeqa Jones, while Zinzi Nyembeka took top spot in the Grade 1 pageant.
Orville Trout, from Strandfontein, was there with his family to support his daughter in the modelling show and enjoy the lekker entertainment.
“My daughter took part in the pageant and as her number one fan, I was here to cheer her on,” the proud dad says.
“I look forward to the carnival every year to enjoy the kwaai entertainment on stage.”
