A MAN was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning in Parow after being found in possession of 37 stolen bank cards, 17 mobile phones, and a fraudulent driving licence.
At around 2am on Sunday morning, traffic officers patrolling Voortrekker Road noticed a vehicle without number plates.
They stopped the driver and took him into custody after discovering he was using a fake driving licence.
While transporting the suspect’s vehicle to the Parow police station, an officer spotted a black bag on the passenger seat.
In the bag, they found 37 bank cards, 17 mobile phones and over R17 000 in cash.
The driver was charged with fraud and the possession of suspected stolen goods. His vehicle was also impounded.
In addition to fraud charges, the suspect faces further legal action over his fake driving licence.
Meanwhile, SAPS reported the arrest of two suspects with illegal firearms in separate incident.
In the first incident, Steenberg police conducted random stop and search operations and entered an address in Elsie Menning Street in Retreat.
After interrogation, the occupant was busted with a 7.65mm pistol and ammunition as well as an imitation firearm hidden in the ceiling of the house.
They detained the adult male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of an imitation firearm.
On Monday, during patrols in Lavender Hill, cops chased down a man who fled when he saw them and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition found in his possession. They detained the 39-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi adds that the two will appear in Wynberg Magistrates Court when charged.
