The villain in a love triangle on the Baxter Theatre’s hottest show, Aunty Merle The Musical, is out to cause trouble for the third season.
Cape Flats star Loukmaan Adams, 42, plays Denver Paulse, the ex-berk of Aunty Merle’s only daughter, Abigail.
Denver has a dodgy top job with the SABC and is threatening to reveal a dark secret to keep Abigail from marrying her new berk, Alan, who happens to be white.
As Merle frequently says: “He’s a good-looking white chap!”
But Loukmaan says under all the villainy, he is a hard-working husband and father to his daughters.
Loukmaan and his wife Shakira has a five-month-old daughter Nurrah, and he also has an eight-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.
The hunk says he spends most of his days in the theatre and gets his reward at night when his baby girl’s little face lights up when she sees him.
He says even after three seasons, mense are still upset that he’s playing the bad guy.
“Sometimes I can hear their remarks from the stage,” he says.
“‘Hier’s die ding nou, klap hom soema!’
“Once after a show, someone came up to me and told me that they don’t like me playing such a mean character.
“But after all the hard work and time spent in rehearsals, I love getting home to entertain my daughter.
“There are times she just stares at me and doesn’t laugh and I tell her that there are people who pay to see my facial expressions, here she gets it free and doesn’t even show interest.”
But he says he likes playing Denver, although he and that vullis have nothing in common.
“I enjoy playing this character, it stretches me to get out of my comfort zone.
“Denver isn’t like me at all, except for his hard work and determination, I have that too.”
