A young woman accused of helping robbers steal cellphones and laptops was caught and a video of her being slapped around by her captors has gone viral on social media.
Her family says she has not returned home after she was allegedly abducted by the men in Langa on Saturday.
The footage shows Asazakhe Azah Jezile, 23, sitting in the back seat of a car between men and a hand suddenly slapping her in the face.
She is called a con artist and the men discuss what they are going to do with her.
Her brother Sibusiso says she has been spotted, but it doesn’t seem like she wants to come home.
“I’m not sure what to think anymore, it is difficult to go to the police and report a missing person’s case when we don’t know the whole story,” he says.
“But I know whatever it is that she is accused of, she has not done it, she is not a con artist.”
One of the men in the video approached the Daily Voice to give his version of events.
Thabile Junior Breeze says: “I drove to Asazakhe with my friend on Friday night at around 8.30pm and when we arrived, she told me she wanted the iPhone7 Plus,” he says.
“She said she was going to fetch money and five seconds later, three men with guns approached the car.
“They robbed us of laptops, MacBooks and Dell and other iPhones, Huawei and Samsung phones and money.
“They even tried to take our car, a silver BMW, but we managed to get away.
“We went back the following day and I tried to call her, but she blocked my number.
“But we had an idea of where she lives. We picked her up so she can show us where the robbers live in Khayelitsha, then later we dropped her off in Langa.”
Thabile says they didn’t hurt Asazakhe and they have nothing to do with her not returning home.
“We didn’t hurt her, a friend of mine who was angry slapped her, we wanted to recover our stolen goods and we still have not.
“We don’t want to involve the police in the matter,” he says.
