Police are investigating a murder after a man was stabbed to death and his body found dumped in Macassar over the weekend.
The body of a deceased man with multiple stabbed wounds was found on an open field in Baden Powell Drive near to the mobile shop in Sheikh Yusuf Street on Saturday.
A picture of the deceased body was circulating on crime groups showing the man laying in between the bulrushes. The man is seen wearing a black t-shirt, jeans and white shoes.
Macassar Community activist Christiaan Stewart said that Macassar has become a dumping site where dead bodies are being dispose of by individuals outside of the area.
A concerned Stewart says: “There are two bodies who have been found in Baden Powell that have been shot, and this is an issue that needs to be addressed by the Police Commissioner in the Western Cape.
"But it seems to me there is always a lack because there is always a shortage of policemen and Law Enforcement.
“This is a huge concern of bodies being dumped or people being killed and their bodies are being brought into Macassar. This is really a sad thing.
“This is something that is very serious for us as a community, because at the end of the day Macassar becomes a dumping site for whatever reason. We have people outside dumping people in Macassar and it is terrible.
"We have been complaining about this but it all falls under deaf ears. We had a meeting to question why this is happening and what is the reason behind it because it is not the first time.
"Just about a month ago, a body was also found in Sandvlei and it just continues to go on like that. We are trying our best to do whatever we can to stop this from happening but we are not succeeding and now it has become a big problem.”
When Daily Voice reached out to the Community Police Forum, we were told to send our enquiries to the South African Police Service for comment about the incident.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie confirmed the murder.
He reports: "Macassar SAPS opened a murder docket for further investigation following the discovery of a body of an adult male in his early thirties along Baden Powell Drive in bushes opposite a farm.
"Members were dispatched to the scene at about 12.08pm on Saturday 15 March after security guards made the discovery and alerted authorities. The deceased had multiple stab wounds to his upper body."
Pojie is appealing to anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the deceased to please contact the detective branch commander Captain Gelly Geldenhuys on 082 469 3336, 021 857 7100 or Crime Stop at 0860010111. All information will be dealt with confidentially.
