Club 7764 in Athlone recently had a facelift and reopened with a bang on Saturday to celebrate their new look.
The venue, previously known as Club Joy, was popular back in the day as a jazz and live music spot.
Owner Mohorn Patel assures patrons that not too much has changed in the music department: “It’s just to keep up with the trends of modern day clubs.”
The foyer sports a glossy new icy white look, while the bar has seen a complete revamp.
Crisp new white sofas add elegance.
Newly appointed manager, Richard Fortune, greeted patrons at the door and then it was time for the iconic Rockets band to take to the stage.
Patrons arrived in warm jackets, but shrugged them off to reveal stunning outfits inside where alles was hot and happening.
“The older crowd appreciate this Saturday afternoon live music, this is the only place they can still go to enjoy themselves among people their age, this is for the golden oldies,” says Richard.
Jerry Watt from The Rockets says the band is going back to their roots: “This is where things started for The Rockets 50 years ago, net hier innie
Athlone.”
Patron, Sandra Bailey, 45, says she loves the new look: “This is stunning. It’s really nice to see them keeping up with the modern day club
culture while still accommodating the older crowd with our favourite music.”
