A Mitchells Plain theatre icon is moving with the times and will be hosting his very first online production this month.
Omar Adams aka Boeta Maan, the founder of Kinders van die Ses, presents Iris Pasop Vir Die Virus which will be streaming on 8 and 9 August.
Boeta Maan says he won’t be limited by the lockdown and is bringing a production “wat skrik vir niks”, he jokes using the Daily Voice tagline.
“The idea to host an online show came after I did Father Love with my sons Emo and Loukmaan. I thought I’ll try this with my Kinders Van Die Ses drama group, so for two days in a week for three weeks, we would rehearse at my home in Lentegeur,” he says.
The 75-year-old director says he wrote and funded the production himself.
“The lockdown doesn’t get Boeta Maan down; ek is plat, glad en op ‘n nuwe pad, just as I started 33 years ago, on my own without any sponsors at my house in Eastridge.”
Boeta Maan says the online streaming territory is still new to him and his KVDS cast, but he loves a challenge.
He says: “It’s a first for us but I’m proud to say we overcame the rough challenges and managed to film the production in one day which is miraculous for me.”
The production was pre-recorded last week and will stream online over two days.
“The show is about a mother thinking highly of her two daughters, but behind her back, they are up to mischief, one is a call-girl and the other one is in love with a married man. Iris is the neighbour and a trouble maker,” Boeta Maan reveals.
Tickets are R100 via Quicket and will stream at 7.30pm.
