After the Tafelsig Community Action Network (CAN) food storage facility was burgled earlier this month, the kitchen has since opened and are inviting mense to come enjoy a lekker cup of soup and brood today.
Tafelsig CAN ambassador Marc Lottering and Shoprite have teamed up to bring relief to Joanie Fredericks and her feeding scheme team.
The Shoprite Soup Truck will be parked at 31 Dassenberg Street in Tafelsig from 11.30am today to feed children, the elderly and people with disabilities, says Joanie.
“This is how we choose to pay back, with love and kindness,” she says.
“When the last Shoprite Soup Truck visited TMPC, the community came in droves, men, women, old, young, everyone was served.
“On Tuesday though, only children, the elderly and people with disabilities will be served as a direct result of the break-in into our storeroom and the failure of the community to support us with the information needed to apprehend the culprits.
“We will only take care of the most vulnerable and we will continue to do our very best to provide them with warm meals, clothing, nappies and baby essentials because they cannot and will not be held accountable for the sins of those who choose to destroy a community.”
Comedian Marc Lottering tells the Daily Voice: “The poor are stealing from the poor.
“My heart broke when Joanie told me. I asked Joanie to put together a video which I posted on my socials asking people to help.
“Because people still need to eat, particularly children.
“We have had a great response from people around the world offering help.
“Today is one such example when we say thank you to Shoprite.”
